Sutton Community Dance CIC
DIRECTOR’S REPORT 31st AUGUST 2025 “Whether on the high street, in Trinity square, in Manor Park, or within their own venue, SCD transforms public spaces into vibrant, accessible cultural experiences.” Jeff Richards, Chair Sutton New Town Festival The last 12 months have again been characterised by a huge increase in the operational delivery of Sutton Community Dance (SCD). Reflecting on the last few years, SCD after 6 years has experienced all kinds of challenging times and has continued to focus on its purpose, mission and community this last year. Of note are the new partnerships began over the last 12 months, where the leadership of SCD has once more focused on partnering and collaborating for the good of the community, avoiding competition at all costs. New partnerships began with Sutton Mental Health Foundation, for example, with support groups for families living with autism, women struggling with the menopause and those going through grief. The specialist support from SMHF, alongside the open and free access to SCD’s classes and open relationships has been truly transformational for many. SCD’s classes have continued to grow with more class options (growing from 80 to 90 per week), more total membership with 10% more than last year and a deeper level of engagement with over 45 young people choosing SCD for work experience and joining the Young Dance Leaders development stream. What sets this dance space apart is not just what happens within its walls but also the ripple effects it creates throughout our community. Their doors are always open for collaborations, supporting and boosting what is on offer in our local area. It's where neighbours come together and where friendships are forged. It is always supporting other local businesses and initiatives, encouraging its members to join in and enjoy all that Sutton has to offer. Natalie Coles, Department of Psychiatry, Oxford University
