Splatch Productions delivered a programme of community-centred, site-specific arts activity across Cardiff and the surrounding region. Our work this year focused on expanding access to high quality outdoor arts, celebrating coastal heritage, and supporting young people’s creative development. A major achievement of the year was the production of To The Sea Festival, a week-long programme of free outdoor performances, workshops and events on the coast. The festival brought together professional artists, youth performers and community groups, enabling residents and visitors to experience high-quality circus, theatre and movement work at no cost. It also encouraged greater community engagement with public coastal spaces, and local businesses reported increased footfall during the festival week. Alongside the festival, the company delivered a summer of youth-focused outreach, including circus, movement and performance workshops designed to build physical confidence, creative expression and social connection among young people. These activities particularly benefited those with limited access to arts education, and provided opportunities for young performers to work alongside professional artists. Through mentoring, training and performance experience, participants were supported in both their personal and artistic development. Throughout the year, Splatch Productions provides accessible arts experiences by offering free or low-cost outdoor performances, allowing individuals and families particularly those facing financial barriers or limited access to cultural venues to engage with live performance. The company also contributed to local employment in the arts by providing paid opportunities for freelance performers, technicians, facilitators and creative practitioners based in the region. Our work brings together audiences of different ages and backgrounds to share collective experiences in public spaces. By creating performances rooted in place, history and coastal landscapes, we contributed to the cultural identity of the area, encouraging pride in local heritage and increasing public engagement with outdoor arts. Overall, the company’s activities during this financial year made a significant contribution to community wellbeing, youth development and cultural life in the region, while furthering Splatch Productions’ mission to provide accessible, site-specific arts experiences for all.
