Grenfell Recovery Peer Support Programme RBKC. The Hollick Family Foundation. The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation. National Lottery Awards For All England. The Westway Trust. Aims and Activities Renegade Theatre Community Interest Company run free performing arts and heritage projects for, with and about the diverse North Kensington Community. We run weekly Kids Drama Club from Venture Community association for local children aged 4-13, as well as a weekly adult community Drama Workshop programme called Express Yourself. Renegade Theatre engaged over 500 North Kensington residents, aged 4-80 years, in our activities and events this year, increasing confidence, self-expression, artistry, togetherness and fun. We celebrated our Kids Drama Club anniversary with a retrospective film screening of the children’s work as well as a poem, Celebration, created and performed by them. The event was held at Morley College for a local community audience including included the Mayor of RBKC and was featured on the BBC News. The kids also worked with a local musician to compose and perform a ukulele song, Save Our Planet, in Athlone Gardens. In December 2024 the children worked with professional theatre practitioners to devise and perform their own pantomime, CinderFella in Venture Centres main Hall. The beginning of 2025 centred around improvisation workshops as to enable the children to explore themes for a movement piece to be performed later in the year. We organised inspiring theatre trips for the kids and their parents to see Matilda at The Cambridge Theatre and Ballet Shoes at The National Theatre. Our adult Express Yourself drama group worked with a local playwright to imput into a new a new site specific play, All Our Rules ( None of Yours), about the radical history of North Kensington and our playground Venture. The play was performed in the playground during the summer to a rapturous community audience. Our talented Express Yourself also worked with wonderful guest artist actors who facilitated scene study and performance using extracts from the work of Shakespeare as well as American and British contemporary playwrights. And our participants enjoyed trips to both the National and Brixton House Theatre’s to see some of their facilitators work on stage .
