Well-Edu CIC
The team has delivered services for children and young people that promote good mental health, personaldevelopment skills and academic achievement. This has included our specialised tuition both privately andwithin school settings. Through regular feedback from parents/guardians, we have documented that studentswho attend private lessons report an increase in their well-being and learning achievements, including boostedconfidence, concentration, general self-esteem beyond the classroom and the ability to approach tests/examswith a positive mindset. Within schools, initial reports are extremely positive with feedback that children are ableto tackle challenges at school and within their homelives with improvements in behaviour, engagement andresilience. This has led to recommendations to external services and requests for delivery in additional settings. Our peer mentorship projects in a school located in an area of deprivation was also successful, with feedbackincluding improved collaborative relationships within the school community and students are more informed onhow to support their own mental health in a range of contexts such as in exam preparation and learningstrategies that promote ambition with regards to future employability and the tools to tackle workplacestressors to create a higher potential of gaining and maintaining future employment. As a CIC, we have also completed work to supplement our 'funded' projects by raising funds through donations.Activities to do this have included a 'lego walk' and a skydive. We also secured funding from Asda and the Co-op.This funding, plus surplus profits from our trading, enabled us to provide a peer mentoring project for vulnerablestudents and a course of therapeutic tuition for a number of vulnerable students in school settings. Staff and individual teachers have received training in therapeutic teaching strategies to boost well-being forboth themselves and the children that they teach. This has a wider impact for their students, school communityand their personal lives. To supplement our funding projects further, we have also had our own team qualify in Mental Health First Aidand the delivery of training for organisations/businesses and adapted/specialist training for education settings. This has increased awareness of how to support and respond to the mental health needs of others, providedcareer development opportunities and maximises the potential for adults to be able to recognise and addressmental health needs within their family lives and any children that they have contact with through their ownday to day in both their community and workplace activities. Safety and well-being is a top priority in our organisation; our staff received training in safeguarding and first aidto ensure we were able to provide timely interventions for our beneficiaries/stakeholders at all times. Weattended collaborative meetings with external agencies, liaised and met with settings, individual services suchas occupational health and social services teams, and held discussions with parents/guardians to respond toboth child protection and health needs as and when needed. This has ensured effective multi-agency workingand resulted in children and young people accessing the additional resources and interventions required. Our services have been developed and adapted to maximise the impact on individuals and the community alike. Improvements in awareness and services for mental health and achievement enables all children, young peopleand adults to be better able to reach their potential and creates positive environments in education, home andoutside settings. This, in turn, has wider long term benefits to pro-actively tackle current and future contributingfactors such as mental health, personal development, achievement and family life that correlate with the futurehealth, employment, poverty and crime rates - particularly for those most disadvantaged - within thecommunity. The services that Well-Edu has provided within this period have contributed to tackling these issuesand enhance the life chances of those the individuals that we work with.
