The Rose & Thistle Rockbourne CIC

The principal activity of the company is the operation of The Rose & Thistle, Public House and Restaurant. The company's activities provide benefit to both the residents of Rockbourne village, a community of around 250 people, and other neighbouring communities and to walkers and other visitors to the Cranbourne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Beauty, in which Rockbourne is situated. The Rose & Thistle provides a venue at the heart of Rockbourne village for residents, neighbours and visitors to meet and enjoy social events (Rockbourne has no shop, restaurant or other retail amenities) thereby supporting people at risk of social isolation and loneliness and providing activities that support positive mental health and well-being. People in local communities are encouraged to engage and participate in local events and connect with each other. The pub provides opportunities to promote a sense of place, encourage community cohesion and support local tourism. The pub offers free Wi-Fi to customers, which allows access to the Internet for disadvantaged members of the community who do not have such connectivity at home. The pub serves food and drinks at lunchtime and evening in a welcoming venue that is accessible by foot to all local residents (the nearest restaurant being over 5 miles away). It also serves guests from neighbouring communities and tourists, many of whom walk in the surrounding countryside. Additionally, the company hosts special events, such as quizzes, themed food nights, birthday and Christmas parties and dinners, village cricket club lunches and dinners, weddings, funeral/wake parties, live music and live coverage of major sporting events. If the company makes any surplus, it will largely be used for reinvestment in the business, both in the facilities and in events that may be run for the benefit of the community and aligned to the company's objectives.
