Springtail Productions first full documentary, Six Inches of Soil, was released in January 2024, in this financial year April 24-March 2025 there have been 501 screenings. These have been mostly small screenings in the community with an average of 50 attending, on farms, eco groups and other urban and rural community groups who are keen to discuss the future of farming and environmental issues. In March-May there was the Picturehouse cinema Green screen programme, where the film was a screened around the UK followed by panels and sometimes food and drink. These were organised with one of our partners, Sustainable Food Places. The panel sessions were excellent as they helped to bring communities together and it meant many of the topics proposed in the film were discussed by the audience. Also the screening events created a community event excellent for networking and supporting local ethical businesses. Also creating events in rural and hard to reach areas. The screenings attracted plenty of coverage via social media, articles in papers from the Financial Times to the Farmers Guardian. This again helps to expand the impact of the film and to ensure this very important subject is discussed beyond those that understand the subject. A book was also published from the film’s transcriptions, this book supports the work of the film and enables the audience to explore the subject further. We also launched a podcast called Six Inches of soil to once again ‘spread the word’ of soil and regenarative farming. In New Zealand the film was shown 50 times in 1 month as part of the Organic month and then was shown in the parliament with cross party politicians in attendance. The film has been shown at large a large corporations who are wanting do discuss the role of regenerative farming.and invited guests who they would like to educate on this matter such as M&G investments and Savills. These corporate events helped to financially support our grassroots community work and to keep the film rental very affordable for small groups and NGOs. They enabled us to screen the film 100s of times further increasing the impact. The directors of Springtail Productions and other members of the team have been on many panels and discussed this subject many times, again helping to spread the word.
