Songbirds Music UK CIC

Songbirds Music UK continue to deliver our impactful work centred around child patients and families at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. We have successfully completed our Youth Music funded work , ending this project in March 2025. We engaged 4 trainee musicians to deliver activities across the hospital and worked with 3 families in the community through a programme of online music sessions. We continue to deliver regular music session to RMCH paediatric Critical care twice weekly over 50 weeks per year. We have been successful this year in submitting and receiving a 3-year grant from Youth Music to develop this work, which will enable us to recruit more musicians and widen the scope of our offer to children, young people and families. This will include building on our work to increase opportunities for young musicians to train with us, increase regular ward sessions, musicians’ training, team building sessions, and build our engagement with young people through Youth Services and Youth Club sessions, linking with Therapeutic and Specialised play Service and youth teams at RMCH. We have shared our news through our monthly newsletter and social media postings. We collect numbers of beneficiaries from our sessions, write case studies and share reports on the impact of our work regularly. We know from our feedback that our work helps children and families to better cope with being in hospital, it supports pain and stress management and improves wellbeing in children and families affected by hospitalisation and disability.
