Greening Wingrove Community Interest Company

The company has put on over 20 community, environmentally focussed events running from our Hub in Nuns Moor Park. These have been well attended and have encouraged local people to engage in activities such as riding bikes; connection to nature and cultural activities. These include collaborations with Northumberland Wild Life Trust, Planet Action Street Arts, Blue Green Newcastle Project, Cycling UK, Key Ring and more. Our hub and garden is open most days and members of the public can come in to enjoy the space and get free refreshments. We had a warm hub over the winter allowing local residents hit by the cost of living crisis to join us and enjoy a hot drink and company. Regular sessions in food growing, wildlife gardening, yoga and art are ongoing. We’ve added ten trees to the local community orchard in Nuns Moor Park and run skill shares for orchard care. We have supported our local friends of the park in their activities throughout the year in caring for the park and expanding wildlife friendly planting. We raised a modest amount of money through grants which have been well used running cycling events, dr bike sessions, orchard maintenance, seasonal community events, and garden maintenance. We also received a kind donation of compost from a seed saving organisation. We also received kind donations from local people which have allowed us to build two new planters for food growing, and a yet to be purchased new awning to replace one which was damaged in a storm. The company looks forward to an exciting year of local environmental and community activism.
