Gower Unearthed CIC
Directors’ Report Gower Unearthed CIC For the year ended 2025. The Director presents this report together with the financial statements for the year ended 2025. During the year, Gower Unearthed CIC continued to fulfil its mission of connecting people with the heritage, archaeology, history and natural environment of the Gower Peninsula through education, research and community engagement. The company delivered a wide range of projects that promoted the conservation and understanding of local heritage. Activities included archaeological education, oral history projects, public engagement events, guided heritage walks, school workshops, community archaeology initiatives and partnerships with a range of local and national organisations. A key focus throughout the year was the continuation of heritage education with local schools, providing curriculum-linked learning opportunities through classroom sessions, archaeological field trips and outdoor educational experiences. These activities encouraged young people to engage directly with the historic landscape and develop a greater appreciation of the cultural and environmental heritage of Gower. Significant work during the year included the continued development of the Gower Young Archaeologists’ Club, collaborative work on the Welsh Historic Place Names Project, archaeological outreach events, and the development of the Gower Fern Conservation and Education Initiative. The company also commissioned a geophysical survey of a local medieval chapel, contributing new evidence to improve understanding of the site and helping to address research priorities identified within the Welsh Archaeological Research Framework. This work represents an important investment in advancing archaeological knowledge while supporting the future conservation and interpretation of Gower’s historic environment. The company has continued to secure external funding and develop partnerships that support its community interest objectives. All activities have been undertaken for the benefit of the community, promoting education, participation, research and the protection of local heritage. The Director wishes to record sincere thanks to the many volunteers, partner organisations, schools, funders and community members whose continued support has enabled Gower Unearthed CIC to deliver a diverse programme of educational and heritage activities throughout the year. The Director considers the financial position of the company to be satisfactory and believes that Gower Unearthed CIC is well placed to continue delivering public benefit through its community heritage, archaeological research and education work in the coming year. This report has been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. Approved by the Board and signed on its behalf.
