Edible East C.I.C.
We have been working with the mental health charity, Norfolk and Waveney MIND to support local people to design and create the Green Hearts Community Garden, in Mile Cross, Norwich. In this area of high levels of deprivation, benefits include: the transformation of an area of neglected land into a thriving community garden, participants in this and the following project enjoyed gaining a wide range of horticultural skills and some are now moving on to further horticultural training. We have provided accessible plant growing sessions for members of The Feed Social Supermarket, a charity which provides affordable food to those in need, which was funded by Norwich Consolidated Charities We worked in Great Yarmouth with Out There Arts on a variety of creative, environmentally friendly workshops for teenagers and families. Benefits included: confidence building, inspiring creative reuse of plastics into stylish sturdy pinwheels and the pleasure of getting closer to nature through creative printmaking with plants. Our biggest project to date has been the conception and creation of an exhibition and public engagement programme called 'Through the Microscope - secrets of Norfolk's Changing Landscape'. This environmental exhibition at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse Museum, was created with the help of local scientists and archivists and supported with public money through Arts Council England. Benefits include: engaging the public with important environmental themes in fun, surprising ways, empowering people with scientific knowledge, creating new local partnerships between culture, heritage and science and providing quality artwork for rural audiences. We delivered sensory, creative activities using plants, for participants at Norfolk’s Special Educational Needs Festival, as well as creative ways of visualising a more sustainable future for Norwich at the ‘Re-imagine the City’ event. Benefits included: increased confidence to enjoy nature and visual records of local people’s hopes for their city.
