Davren: Community Solutions C.I.C.
During the financial year, the principal activities of Davren Community Solutions focused on delivering a wide range of community-based support services aimed at promoting social inclusion, education, health awareness, and cultural engagement, with a particular emphasis on supporting the Roma community in Halifax and surrounding areas. Key activities included: English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes for adults, delivered in partnership with Universal Credit and Jobcentre Plus, helping individuals improve their English language skills and enhance their employment opportunities and social integration. Practical support services, such as assisting Roma community members with completing application forms for housing, welfare, education, and healthcare. Health education initiatives, including hosting an NHS forum to raise awareness about the appropriate use of antibiotics and improve understanding of the UK healthcare system. Cultural and recreational events, such as traditional Roma dance sessions, music activities for young children, and football sessions for children, all designed to promote cultural pride, physical wellbeing, and youth engagement. Community events, such as a summer BBQ, that brought together diverse members of the community to foster social cohesion and reduce isolation. Outreach support, including coordinating a visit from embassy officials to our Halifax centre to assist Roma individuals who were unable to travel to London to renew passports or resolve documentation issues. Advice sessions offering one-on-one support with housing, health access, and employment-related issues. These activities reflect the organisation’s commitment to reducing barriers, empowering individuals through education and practical support, and strengthening the community through inclusive and culturally respectful engagement.
