This year we have continued to hold a monthly group for SEND parents at a local library. Parents can come along for advice from Shelley or just to have a cuppa and chat with other parents who are experiencing similar circumstances at home or at school with their children. We have some parents who come along all or most months and some who have just dropped in for one or two sessions. We have also continued to facilitate the weekly adult ADHD group through Northumberland Recovery College online – this is for adults looking to better understand their ADHD diagnosis, get support with things that they are struggling with and just chat to others who experience similar experiences. We have continued to offer our Connect Parents course online for parents looking to better understand their child’s behaviour and see the needs underneath it. We have also done 1-2-1 sessions with parents around this, to better understand and communicate with their child and deepen connections in their family. Shelley offered several free resources this year, through newsletters and also social posts, to support parents We have continued to take adults and children through the The Safe and Sound Protocol music listening therapy, supporting them to understand their own unique nervous system responses and to learn small, simple, somatic techniques to use for regulation. We added the Rest and Restore Protocol to the offer and have had several adults go through this programme too, with good results. We have continued to support neurodivergent children through Maths and English tutoring and delivered Neurodiversity Celebration Week workshops in a local primary school for 300+ children, to celebrate all our unique brain strengths. We collaborated with a local counsellor to develop some training workshops for counsellors, to better understand their neurodivergent clients and be able to support them more effectively. We also collaborated with an emotional intelligence coach to develop more understanding around emotional intelligence and making it accessible for all types of brains.
