Brighton Repair Café C.I.C.

The Brighton Repair Café which was established in 2012 and became a CIC in 2019 provides events where people can seek advice on how best to mend their possessions. They are taught how to safely mend their things by volunteers with expertise in the fixing of electrical goods, electronic good, textiles, bicycles, furniture and other household products. This has increased participants’ confidence and skills to repair different household items. Running events in an area of high deprivation, Brighton Repair Café has supported people over the past year by limiting the number of products they need to replace or are difficult and costly to have fixed commercially. This has also extended the life of many products and has saved them from going to landfill or into other waste streams. Additionally, those who have attended events either by volunteering their expertise or being shown how to fix their belongings, have met others in a relaxed and social environment and become part of a supportive repair community.
