Aspire Black Suffolk CIC is a not-for-profit organisation tackling inequality through creative, cultural and educational initiatives, with a focus on young people and underrepresented communities. This year we delivered a range of programmes and events which promoted inclusion, celebrated Black heritage, and created lasting opportunities for learning, leadership and community connection. Key programmes included: Beyond the Baseline (Arts Council funded) – celebrating and platforming Black British music while engaging young people in cultural expression. Proud to Be – delivered in partnership with local museums, providing history lessons that celebrate Black heritage, establishing a youth collective, and developing the second edition of Elimu, Suffolk’s first Black history book championing local heroes. Cultural events and showcases – supported by DWP and the Primadonna Festival, platforming Black creatives and organisations to strengthen local networks. Constable 250 – embedding our work in wider heritage activity by honouring overlooked historical stories. Teaching and training – continuing to support organisations in equality, diversity and inclusion, influencing policy and practice across the cultural and education sectors. In total, we have delivered over 40 interactive workshops and community takeovers, reaching more than 1,000 young people through our programmes, we have encouraged leadership and creative programmes. Our partnership with the #iWill campaign ensured youth social action remained central, to our work and this can be seen through our delivery and ongoing forward planning. We have recruited a youth lead who is a young person and an #iWill Ambassador who provides us with the collective embedded young voices whilst we shape our future work. The impact of these activities has been seen in increased skills, confidence and aspirations among young people, greater recognition of Black contributions to Suffolk’s culture and history, and stronger community connections. Feedback has been highly positive, with our work inspiring new collaborations, raising Suffolk’s profile for inclusive practice, and creating opportunities for both personal and professional growth.
