Wphi CIC
During the reporting period, WPHI CIC has delivered a wide range of community focused activities designed to strengthen social cohesion, promote inclusion, and provide accessible cultural, educational and social opportunities for the people of Withington and the wider Manchester area. Our venue has operated as a safe, welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community, offering regular social sessions and acting as a hub for the strategic planning of Withington Pride. Alongside this, we have hosted numerous life event celebrations including weddings, birthday parties, christenings and children’s parties, ensuring that local residents have access to an affordable and inclusive community venue. We have delivered a programme of events aimed at improving intergenerational cohesion, including gatherings that bring together elderly residents and the local student population. We have also supported local arts and culture by hosting photography exhibitions, life‑drawing classes, DJ workshops, film screenings, live music, comedy nights and theatrical performances. These activities provide opportunities for creativity, skills development and community participation. WPHI CIC has also facilitated educational and professional development opportunities, including science conferences, co‑working sessions in collaboration with Withington Baths, and a week long programme of events for International Women’s Day. Regular social activities such as quiz nights, cheese and wine evenings and community meet ups have further strengthened local connections and reduced social isolation. A key part of our social impact comes from our approach to recruitment and staff development. We actively recruit young people and individuals who may have limited experience or who face barriers to employment within the hospitality and events sector, including those with neurodivergent profiles. Our workplace is intentionally designed to be nurturing, patient and supportive, enabling staff to develop confidence, build practical skills and progress at a pace that suits their needs. This approach has already produced meaningful outcomes; for example, one of our young pizza chefs, who joined us with minimal experience, has grown significantly in skill and confidence, and with our support successfully applied for a promotional opportunity elsewhere. This reflects our commitment to creating sustainable employment pathways and improving long‑term prospects for local young people. We also remain committed to supporting the local economy by sourcing our supplies from nearby independent businesses wherever possible. This ensures that the financial benefits of our activities are reinvested back into Manchester based businesses and helps strengthen the resilience of other local enterprises. Across all activities, our impact has centred on creating an inclusive, safe and vibrant community space that supports wellbeing, celebrates diversity, nurtures emerging talent and enhances cultural life in Withington.
