The Public Domain Review's mission is to serve the general public in advanced education, learning and access to the arts; to serve teh community of writers and academics in providiing a platform to share their work to a wider public; and to serve the community of gallery, libraries, archives, and museums in shairing their digitised material with a wider public. We raise awareness of and promote new areas of knowledge and learning from the history of art, literature and ideas, with a special focus on facilitating the appreciation, use, and growth of a digital cultural commons which is open for everyone. Duting the financial year 2024-2025, we have benefited the community in the following ways: Working with academics and writers (from established to up-and-coming) to publish 21 longform essays across a wide range of educational subjects, all free to access for a general public. The publishing of 60 posts highlighting cultural material from a wide range of galleries, libraries, archives and musuems, offering contect and insign and encouraging further exploration. We welcomed 643 new friends of the Public Domain Review, an engaged community of readers who donate annually to the project to keep it allive. Our webiste's pages were viewed more than 8 million times, all accessed for free and without intrusive adverising. Throughour December 2024 we published our highlights of works entering the public domain in 2025, the page being viewed 30,000 times, and our accompanying blogpost on January 1st 2025 was viewed more than 40,000 times. In January 2025 we published our sister-project website Public Domain Image Archive, a curated collection of more than 10,000 out-of-copyright historical images, free for all to explore and reuse.
