Funky Fitness And Fun CIC
Funky Fitness and Fun CIC was established to provide an environment where adults with additional needs can flourish, develop their abilities, and participate fully in community life. Our aim is to provide meaningful opportunities that promote wellbeing, confidence, independence, social inclusion, and personal development, whilst delivering benefit to the wider local community. We support approximately 35 families and provide person-centred services for adults aged 19 and over with additional needs. We are led by the needs, aspirations, and goals of our members and regularly review our activities to ensure they reflect individual interests and desired outcomes. Our activities include: Fitness and exercise sessions Dance and movement activities Nutrition and healthy lifestyle education Singing and signing Drama and creative arts Community participation opportunities Confidence-building activities Social interaction and friendship development Everything we do is designed to encourage individuals to become the best version of themselves and to achieve their personal potential. Throughout the reporting period, Funky Fitness and Fun CIC has delivered significant benefit both to adults with additional needs and to the wider local community. We organised approximately six open community events during the year, welcoming local residents to our centre. These events encouraged social interaction, reduced isolation, promoted inclusion, and enabled local people to gain a greater understanding of the abilities and achievements of adults with additional needs. We also organised fashion shows where our members took a leading role in planning and delivering the events. Members helped organise the day, modelled clothing, welcomed guests, and demonstrated increased confidence and self-esteem through their participation. Our drama activities included writing and performing educational productions such as "The Life of Trees". These performances were attended by members of the local community and provided opportunities for learning, enjoyment, social interaction, and community engagement. Visitors enjoyed refreshments and opportunities to connect with others in an inclusive and welcoming environment. These activities have helped strengthen community relationships and promote positive attitudes towards inclusion and diversity. We actively encourage feedback from members and their families to help measure outcomes and ensure our services continue to meet identified needs. Feedback received throughout the year has demonstrated positive outcomes including: Increased confidence and self-esteem Improved emotional wellbeing and mood Better sleep patterns Increased social interaction and communication Greater participation in community activities Improved independence and decision-making skills Families regularly report seeing positive changes in their relatives' confidence, happiness, motivation, and willingness to engage in new experiences. Our members are encouraged to contribute to planning and decision-making, helping them develop self-advocacy skills and confidence in expressing their views and preferences. A key aim of Funky Fitness and Fun CIC is to support individuals to develop skills, confidence, and independence that enable them to participate fully in their communities. During the reporting period, two members successfully progressed into voluntary roles within local charity shops. This achievement demonstrates increased confidence, employability skills, community participation, and independence. Several members have also attended meetings with partner agencies to contribute to discussions regarding funding applications and future collaborative projects. Their involvement ensures that the voices of people with additional needs are represented within planning and decision-making processes. These opportunities allow members to gain valuable experience, build confidence, and make meaningful contributions to their community. During the year, Funky Fitness and Fun CIC continued to work closely with Oldham College and participated in transition events for young people preparing for adulthood. These events provide valuable opportunities for students to meet adults with additional needs who are successfully engaging in community life. Our members gain confidence through sharing their experiences and interacting with students, while students benefit from developing a greater understanding of inclusion, independence, and personal achievement. We also support a young High School student with additional needs who attends our service accompanied by school staff. Four of our members, supported by two staff members, facilitate a programme of activities that are both developmental and enjoyable, enhancing learning and social interaction. This arrangement promotes peer mentoring, confidence building, leadership skills, and social development. It also provides our members with opportunities to take responsibility, support others, and act as positive role models. Families are central to the work of Funky Fitness and Fun CIC and are recognised as key stakeholders within the organisation. Staff regularly attend professional meetings alongside family members and provide support when liaising with social workers, therapists, healthcare professionals, educational providers, and other agencies. We frequently act as advocates for members and their families, helping them navigate complex systems, understand available support, and ensure that the individual's voice remains central to decision-making. This advocacy work helps families feel supported and contributes to improved outcomes for the individuals we serve. Our staff team host regular meetings of our IMPACT group (Inspiring More Parents and Carers Together). A safe space for families to share worries, concerns and ideas. This is also proving to be a great way to make friends. The directors confirm that during the period 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025, Funky Fitness and Fun CIC has carried out its activities for the benefit of the community and in accordance with its stated community interest objectives. The directors believe that the company has successfully fulfilled its purpose of providing an environment where adults with additional needs can flourish while delivering wider social benefits to families, educational partners, professionals, and the local community. The company remains committed to promoting inclusion, wellbeing, independence, confidence, and meaningful community participation for all those it supports.
