Solicitors working for Not For Profit Law (NFPL) have provided the residents of Norfolk with legal advice in relation to Wills, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection, Tax, Probate, Estate Administration and Trusts. Whilst the majority of service users have paid for the services received, NFPL’s rates are lower than traditional law firms and pro bono advice has been offered when suitable. The profits made from legal work undertaken, subject to the need to retain funds for future costs, have been donated to Norfolk Community Foundation (RCN: 1110817) who have in turn utilised the funds to support other local charities and community groups. This financial year, NFPL has donated £11,000. Since commencing trading in May 2021, NFPL has donated £86,000. NFPL have assisted in raising the profile of Norfolk Community Foundation through their work with clients in the area. Clients have made direct donations totalling £574.75 to Norfolk Community Foundation as a result of their connection with NFPL, either in addition to legal fees paid or in gratitude for pro bono advice. NFPL have also introduced clients with an interest in lifetime charitable giving to Norfolk Community Foundation to enable them to explore this potential and have assisted clients to make bequests within their Wills to Norfolk Community Foundation when this has been appropriate. NPLF have initiated referral schemes with other professional organisations under which these organisations donate a percentage of their fees to Norfolk Community Foundation whenever NFPL refer them work. Such arrangements are in place with other local solicitors, surveyors, valuers and estate agents and have raised a further £554.06 in donations this financial year, with other existing instructions awaiting completion and payment.
