The community will benefit by artists and makers producing print editions they can sell in order to fund projects, learn new skills, contribute to archives and engage with audiences in a new way. Many artists and organisations include print editions within exhibitions, events or projects where the artwork in focus is something less tangible (eg. film, performance, sound, installation, sculpture). Editions can provide income from sales, ‘’gifts’ for patrons or contribute to an archive whilst potentially providing something that conceptually contributes as well. However, many artists, don’t have the knowledge, experience or support to use print this way. Open-access workshops often demand membership and courses require investment. Artists may not feel confident to approach print for the first time. The Artist’s Support Pledge was great for artists already producing sellable, transportable works, but isolated those who didn’t. Speaking with many artists in this position, all were keen on a resource like Lutra and had been previously curious about working with print or editions, but didn’t know where to begin.
