Kunstraum CIC
Kunstraum CIC runs a mixed use venue in central London, which exists to offer free or affordable space for arts and community use, with priority to Black and POC people, as well as to queer and trans communities. Activities happening at Kunstraum include arts events which are open to the public (free or ticketed); wellbeing practices – yoga, meditation, mental health support, self-defence/confidence building (mostly free to attend or donation-based); and closed events and gatherings for specific marginalised groups (including ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ groups, sex workers support groups, migrants support organisations and religious minority groups). The space is also used for film/photo shoots either offered as free or affordable sessions for Black and POC artists or as commercial income generating bookings. In the 2024-25 financial year Kunstraum hosted 199 events or activities which break down as follows: 86 Marginalised community group sessions; 41 Arts events (in the following disciplines: 12 x Live music; 7 x Theatre; 6 x Literature and creative writing; 5 x Visual art; 3 x Film; 3 x Fashion; 2 x Contemporary dance; 3 x mixed artform); 43 Film or photo shoots; 24 Wellbeing sessions; and 5 Other. Of the 199 events or activities 143 were organised by Black or POC people, or organisations majority lead by Black or POC people. We specialise in offering early-career support to creatives and community organisers – the majority of our arts events and many of our other activities – are organised by people for whom this is one of the first public event they have organised in a professional context, most of these are people under the age of 25. The benefit of Kunstraum CIC to the community is in the provision of free or affordable space – for creative development, community building, and wellbeing – for people who have limited access to other similar spaces, for reasons of culture, discrimination or financial means. Kunstraum CIC is distinct in helping groups who use the space to feel ownership over the space, and to feel it is a safe space to gather their community together.
